The treatment for mental health disorders can often seem worse than the condition itself. Side effects are very real and at times very scary. People fear being zombified but I find the real fear is losing their sense of self. Even if we are totally broken we cling onto the parts of us that we see as positive and we fear to lose them. Medication is seen as a threat to this sense of self. We want all the good parts and to get rid of all the bad. For some that may well be achievable but I have heard of many few where that is a reality.
